Compensation commensurate upon experience: $67,000-$73,000

Position Overview

Dwight School, an innovative preschool-grade 12 coeducational school on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, is seeking a self-directed, experienced, and energetic PYP/MYP Theater Teacher & Technician to begin in August 2024. 

Responsibilities

  • Teach two Middle School grade-level sections (PYP/MYP Theater) 
  • Co-teach additional sections of Theater with focus on infusing individual specialization in a classroom setting (specialization may include: costume design, set design, sound and/or lighting programming/design) 
  • Organize, rehearse, and direct performances of an after-school 5th and 6th grade Theater production 
  • Collaborate with the Performing Arts team (Music & Theater, K-12) on additional performances and events throughout the school year (contributing with the above-mentioned individual specialization of costume design, set design, sound and/or lighting programming/design)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred
  • Teaching experience in Theater required (Middle School-level highly preferred) 
  • In addition to teaching experience, experience in one or more of the following disciplines is required: costume design, set design, sound or lighting programming/design (Qlab expertise is preferred)
  • Experience with, and willingness to teach elective-style Theater classes to all Middle School students at the assigned grade level 
  • Experience with the IB Middle Years Program Theater Curriculum (highly preferred)
  • Experience in organizing all aspects of a student Theater production (schedules, rehearsals, costumes, performances, communication with students & families, etc.) 
  • Ability and interest in working with interdisciplinary projects 
  • Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with a diverse community of students and educators
  • Ability to contribute positively to the community with passion, patience and humor
