Middle School Humanities Teacher 

Full-Time
7:30am-4pm
Start Date: August 2024

Compensation commensurate upon experience: $67,000-$73,000


Dwight School, a Pre-K-12 coeducational school on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, is seeking an experienced Middle School Humanities teacher, with a passion for supporting all student’s achievements, for the 2024-2025 academic year. Experience in, or strong knowledge of, the IB, and a student-centered inquiry-based learning approach is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach critical thinking and analysis, while delivering excellent MYP English Literature and Language and Literature and/or Individuals & Societies curriculums to Grade 6-8 students. 
  • Designing, developing and delivering lessons that are student centered, engaging, and inquiry based.
  • Our student body comprises many nationalities - you must display a clear commitment to developing international-mindedness in your classroom. 
  • Collaborate closely with other Dwight colleagues concerning the development of curriculum, academic scope and sequence, student wellness and growth, and professional development to yield a positive and healthy school environment. 
  • Display a commitment to diversity and create a culture of equity, inclusion, and belonging in approach to teaching and learning, as they are recognized and valued by Dwight. 
  • Complete an online Anti-Bias training program in the first year of teaching. 
  • Participate in one after-school activity two out of three trimesters a year. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Science Education, Literature, History, or a related field required
  • Graduate degree in Education, Social Science Education, Literature, History, or a related field preferred
  • At least two year’s prior teaching experience in a Middle School setting
  • Experience with the IB Middle Years Program highly preferred
  • Experience teaching to a wide range of learners 
  • Experience with thoughtful integration of technology into curricula
  • Eagerness to contribute positively to the Dwight School community
  • Willingness to engage with and learn from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Ability to bring joy, kindness, maturity, humor, hard work, and flexibility to the school environment
